Artist's Statement | CV
My mixed media layerist work attempts to create an atmosphere, both modern and nostalgic, that engages the senses, evokes the passing of time, and gives a hint of places one might have travelled to. “Horizon LInel, “Summer Alchemy” and others are part of a series, all the same size with a grid structure as the base. I build up from that with layers of paint, paper, my own photos and reproductions of my other work, found art, and a variety of other materials -- all layered, sometimes sanded down or torn out to create a unique image. With this approach, I hope to touch the viewer at a more metaphysical level, to reach the collective unconscious and connect with that energy — every viewer sees the art differently as filtered through their own life experiences. My hope is that I can reach them and connect for just a moment.
